How to pick spring flowers

NOTE: Tulips and daffodils should not be placed in the same vase. The life of your tulips will be greatly reduced if they are put in the same vase together. They can co-mingle after they have been in separate vases for at least 24 hours.

**We recommend bringing your own small bucket with water to keep your flowers hydrated on the ride home. The bucket can stay in the car.

  1. Pick your basket

We provide you with picking baskets/buckets to carry your flowers (picking baskets are not for sale). You may also bring your own basket.

2. Go picking!

When you find a tulip or daffodil you want, reach down as close to the soil level as possible, grasp the stem and pull straight up.

You might get a flower bulb. Flower bulbs are cut off at the wrapping station.

Pick as many flowers as your heart desires, but ONLY PICK what you intend to purchase.

3. head back to pack your harvest

When you're finished picking, head to our self-serve processing station in the checkout building. If you need assistance, a staff member should be close by.

4. Packing and processing

Bulbs are cut off at the packing station. Please place flower bulbs in compost bins located close to the tables.

5. Wrap and count your bunch

Use the kraft paper provided in the processing tables and count your stems as you lay them out on the paper.

6. Take your beautiful harvest to checkout

7. Please remember to return your picking basket

8. Trim 1/4 inch off of the ends when you get home and place the flowers in cool water.

Remember to keep the flowers away from direct sunlight and heat. Tips: The cooler you keep your flowers, the longer they will last. If your flowers wilt on the way home, put them in water as soon as you get home and you’ll be surprised at how quickly they perk up.

How to pick summer flowers

**We recommend bringing your own small bucket with water to keep your flowers hydrated on the ride home. The bucket can stay in the car.

1. Get your snips & picking basket and head out to the fields

We provide you with picking baskets and snips for your flowers. Snips are for adult use only please. You may also bring your own basket and snips.

2. take the leaves off in the field

When you find a flower you like, break off as many leaves as you want and drop the leaves in the field (we usually leave only two or three leaves closest to the flower head).

3. cut your flower stem as long or as short as you like

Carefully use the snips to cut the stem as long or as short as you prefer (we recommend cutting the stems longer rather than shorter because you can always make them shorter at home but you can't make them longer).

4. Head back to pack your harvest

When you're finished picking, head to a self-serve packing station in the checkout building. If you need assistance, a staff member should be close by.

5. bunch and band your stems

Use the rubber bands provided on the processing tables and count your stems as you band them together.

6. head to the checkout

Proceed to the checkout counter and please remember to return your snips and picking basket.

7. Trim 1/4 inch off of the ends when you get home and place the flowers in clean water. Change the water every two days or so and keep the flowers away from direct sunlight and heat. Wilty flowers usually perk right up after being placed in cold water.
